1978 9.9 Evinrude

I have a cyclinder that will not fire, the coil has a small crack in it, I replaced it, tried it and still no good. I took the feed from the power pack and switched the two cyclinders and the new coil wire and cyclinder fire. My Question is, Can a power pack fail on one cyclinder? also does this 9.9 twin have two or one Trigger under the flywheel? Can I test them with out pulling the flywheel?<br />Thanks Bruce

Any Idea if there is more then one trigger (ignition Sensor) under the fly wheel?

I honestly cannot remember atm.<br /><br />Generally though the powerpack fails<br /><br />TMD

are the power packs fixable . i do electronics

You would have to be able to remove the Gel sealer. Then you would be able to access the electronics.<br /><br />TMD

I not sure about a 1978 but can tell you a 1975 has no power pack. Under the Flywheel it has two sets of points and condensers and a pre coil shared by both cylinders. Pull the flywheel and look may be $5 points or condenser.

There is only one trigger - suspect power pack

Do a search on power pack and repair - I know one member of this board repaired several - he heated and scraped poly off as far as i remember. Common failure is bad soldering, often visible through poly.
