hello all, restoring an older 16' crestliner (can't find year , any good resourses? - think it's a 74 due to the blue and red trim colors )
v-hull with the above engine. posted some threads last fall and now have the boat on the water. engine seems to run fine except for the following :
power trim goes up and down but when taking off with trim up it goes right back down by itself. i know there is an adjustment screw but is there a way to check the fluid in the power trim unit ? in reverse the engine bounces up and down and won't hold the postion. it just pops out of the water, why? installed new throttle and shift cables. they work great in the driveway while the motor is off but at the lake (once engine is warm) they catch each other after full throttle and then you can't move the lever back unless you manually slip a screwdriver in between the cables to help them ride over each other's holding clips. will post pics on next thread........ thanks all!

For one thing, do not take off with motor trimmed up.
Always have motor trimmed all the way down and once you get going, then you can start trimming up for best performance.

Sounds like the reverse lock is broke. There is a lever that goes down over the stop when motor is put in reverse for this very reason, either the stop is broke or some part of the reverse stop is not working right, as in lever not engaging stop.

thanks, found the reverse lock problem. the bracket that holds the hydrolic pin (which pushes the locking clip up and off of the lock bar) during "trimming up" mode was bent so far down that the pin wasn't reaching the bracket. took of and straightned out. works perfect! thanks!! still have other issues listed if anyone can help......
