I just bought a slick 78 glastron ssv 188 with a 115 v4 evin, it does not have TnT, i have been looking for/at units on ebay but can not find a definative reference for which units will or woll not work. Also, how big of a project is it to add the unit? Just a bolt on? Anything have to be removed from the boat or the motor mount? Can i just use the generic switch available here?

Re: 1978 evinrude 115 tilt & trim

I bought my boat and it had a evinrude 88 spl with trim and tilt with at bad piston. Took the motor off and put a 25 on it for the local lakes that have restrictions. when i took it off dont know if it is the same but it just had for bolt going through the transom and the motor was held to the trim and tilt unit through the steering cable and a pin on the hydraulic only. wiring didnt look too complicated. Still have trim and tilt if it will work and you are interested

I have a 1970 115 hp evinrude v4 on my boat. It has a cmc tilt and trim. EASY to install.

Yes, I just got finished installing a OMC power tilt and trim on my 70 horsepower Johnson outbaord and it was a piece of cake to install it. The guy I bought it from of Ebay was very helpful in talking to my over the phone and how to install it. It was easy to do. I actually got mine for $255.00 of Ebay and it included the Relay box, cowling pan switch, trim harness, and the entire tilt and trim assembly. Yes, look on Ebay for one there cheap if you can find the entire unit that includes your relay box, wire harness, cowl pan switch if you want one installed on your motor to operate it at the outbaord, and the entire power tilt and trim unit. Take care, Bob:)

Ya, go with the CMC unit, getting a factory TT for a 31 year old engine that actually works is pretty iffy.

The CMC comes out of the box ready to go, they work for years and years and come with a warranty and you get the bonus of a 6'' set back whihc lets you run your engine higher and increases speed.

Had mine for 6 years and it works every single time, never a problem.

Ok ,everyone is sold on the cmc's, but do they just bolot on to the existing setup, will I have to unmount the motor, I really don't want to disturb the transom if I don't have to.......

The top two bolts were very close to the same width, but unless you are extremely lucky you will have to drill 4 holes. On mine, I installed a metal plate to support the top two bolts. I've seen it done without, but the extra couple bucks will add a lot of support and save the transom. Unless your transom is bad, the extra holes shouldn't be a problem.

there is a link on the non-repair outboard section of a guy who did a video on installing a cmc tilt and trim. Doesn't show the installation, but the before and after shot. But again, the installation is drilling four holes and attaching the motor to the tilt and trim.

The 78 was the first year that could accept the trim kit which was adaptable to all V4's. The factory made a parts replacement unit 173827 from 78 through 98 for the crossflows like yours. They are pricey, so you may want to shop for a used unit. Be sure to get the control box with the trim unit and any harnesses. If you get an early 3-wire unit, the control box will be mounted under the boat splashwell. If you get the later 2-wire unit, the control box will mount on the engine exhaust cover, and you do not have the mounting bosses on your older exhaust cover.

Yes you have to pull the motor but I think you would have to either way you went.

I am pretty certain you have to split the tansom mount to get a factory tilt trim on so it is actually less work to go with the CMC.

I didn't have to drill any hole to mount mine, it just used the factory holes.
