1978 Evinrude 115 wont turn over

I just purchased a 1978 cane cutter 16 foot boat with a 115 evinrude... it doesnt turn over just makes a single click everytim eyou turn the key. I assume its the starter solenoid since when the key is turned to the on position there is power coming into the solenoid but not out the other side... am i on the right page?

Make sure you battery is charged well and if it still won't turn over, try crossing over the solenoid with a screwdriver of something to make contact with it.

has a brand new fully charged cranking battery if i short it, it sparks and the starter turns. im pretty sure its just a bad solenoid

The starter and engine turns over? Or just the starter? But if it turns over like that then yes bad solenoid.

the starter turns... it doesnt turn the motor but its because the starter is bad, the armature is stripped... i already knew the starter was bad just making sure the solenoid is bad before i go purchase one.

Oh, I get it now. Yes it is bad. need a new solenoid. Or redneck a couple wires to a lightswitch! LMAO!!
