I have another thread on this motor. I have a 17' bass boat with a 115 evinrude. I can punch the throttle down and it just won't get up and go. While I was going with the throttle wide open I stood up and stepped towards the front of the boat. It started picking up speed. So my wife sat up front and it took off fine. I'm not carrying any load just me and the wife. I have redone carbs thorough, new fuel pump, cleaned out fuel tank, spark test was great, and compression was 97, 95, 105, 110. I can squeeze the primer bulb while going and it doesn't help. I hit choke but it doesn't help either. I have also put new coils on and decarbed engine. What is going on? I know the engine is strong enough because I have a 135 on a bigger boat with a huge load and it does fine. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

Sounds like it is not trimmed correctly. If you have to move to the front to plane off then your engine isn't trimmed right or you have a lot of water in the back of the boat.

That motor is definitely strong enough for that setup. I have the same and that 115 should have no problem with that boat. Having a load on the front of the boat helps get onto plane quicker as the ***** end is typically very heavy. I had this issue and after an extensive investigation it turned out that I blew a ring. There is definitely something amiss here... Did you just start having this issue or have you had it for a while?

Re: 1978 evinrude 115hp bogging with load on back not front

I bought this boat about 2 months ago from a friend. It had been sitting for 6 yrs. When I checked the compression at first it was 65. 85. 110. 105. The top 2 were low. I sprayed deep creep and ran ring free thru it and compression came up some. I took it to a mechanic and had the carbs took apart and cleaned. My spark is a blue spark 3/4 inch gap. So I thought fuel so I changed all the lines and new fuel pump. I even took the tank out and cleaned it. One of the bowls was way too high when the carb was done so he set that. If I take it out with just me it will run fine for ten minutes or so then when I stop and fish it won't pick up speed. The rpms just stay the same at wot as if it were a quarter throttle. No tach yet. It does idle good

It starts first crank and don't even have to warm up. I just put new flooring in and all new foam. This is the last step in restoration. Last weekend when I did get on plane it was gasping for fuel like it wanted to stop then pick up

I would do another compression check.
