The steering cable froze in the motor mount hinge. I had to drive it out with a hammer and rod. I cleaned the hole that the steering cable goes through. The new cable won't slide through, It appears to be hitting on something. what do I need to do to get the cable to slide through ?

Happy Holidays to Everyone. Thank You for Reading:confused::confused:

Get a pen light (flashlight) and look. Either the tube is clear or it isn't.

You can't "bend" that end of the steering cable. If it wont't go, and the tube is clear, you may have to "dismount the engine".

It probably isn't clear. That rust isn't easy to get out. I have an old reamer that I run through with a drill.

Most boat designs will not allow the end of the steering cable to pass thru the bore in the transom mount with the motor in place. As previously stated you cant bend the cable end and they are a tight fit. You will most likely have to remove the motor and maneuver the cable in and thread the nut on then bolt the motor back. An engine hoist with wheels makes life a lot easier. Hang the motor left of center. Once you have the cable in, maneuver the engine hoist into position to get the motor lined up again. Don't forget to use a marine sealant for below water applications to seal around the bolts otherwise, if you have a wood transom it will rot.

If you have a metal burr on the inside of the steering tube, you may be able to work a round rat tail file back and forth inside the tube to clear the passage.
