Hi,

Doesn't turn over wit key. CAN start by screwdriver across solenoid. Does anyone have a wiring diagram? Does motor have a neutral position switch or is there one located in the controls?

Just got this boat and wiring is suspect at best...

Tnx,

Kerry

Check the fuse in the engine wire harness under the cowling first. It's an inline fuse inside a red rubber housing. Port side. There is also another fuse inside the remote power trim box.

Thanks for the response. \

Update, problem is intermittent. Not sure what I am doing to make it work.. Tried wiggling area shift/throttle asm. but it neither allows it to work, nor stops it if it is working. Need color code, if possible for wire(s) from solenoid to remote control. (looks like neutral switch lives in the remote box)

How hard is it to take remote control apart? Exploded view looks a little intimidating....

The 1978 control was the older side mount with a toggle switch for the choke. If that is what you have, it is wired as shown in the thumbnail (click it please).

The kill circuit is not controlled by the neutral switch, so you may want to consider a new ignition switch.

Hi,

Thanks for the diagram. My controller activates the choke when you push the key in. Is that what you mean by a toggle switch?

No, that's a newer control that is wired like the one in the diagrams at this link with the possible exception of the warning horn: http://www.maxrules.com/graphics/omc_pics/REMCONTBOX.jpg

The wiring colors are slightly different.

As you see, the neutral switch still does not involve the kill circuit.

Perfect, that's what I need. Thanks, ezeke!

Shows that since the electric choke is working, I have 12vdc up to the ignition switch, and that the failure "SHOULD" be either the ignition switch, neutral safety switch or the return wiring back to the solenoid.
Now if it will only cooperate and fail when I have meter in hand, with boat sitting on the trailer....instead of right after launching.....

Yup, was the red w yellow wire that activates the solenoid. Intermittent about one foot from the motor.

Which leads me to another question. My harness is pretty sad. HARD in several places, has been repaired before..

When I go online they show as NLA... what do YOU do when you need to replace the harness???

The harness is two sections, the engine part and the control part, separated by the big red plug at the engine. They are universal from 1973 through 1995, so there are plenty of them around. There may be slight differences in color coding over the years, but the plugs are the same. Check with sea-way.com.

Hi,
I need the one that goes from the motor to the control unit.

W/tilt-trim.

I 'think' it has eight wires...and yup. it has the big red round connector.

PT&T is a separate harness.
