went to the lake today and my starter quit starting due to lack of teeth on the gear and flywheel . I noticed lots of metal shavings all over, tried to pull start it,and was unable to get it started b4 for i ran out of pulling strength . Is it normally so hard to pull start a 200 hp merc ?(1978 model) I checked several times to be sure it was not in gear , seemed very hard to pull to me . But i guess that would explain why the teeth are all worn off the starter. What about the flyweel ? It looks like the flywheel may need replacing too,(teeth not sharp) Is this pretty common? How much should i pay for a starter and flywheel for a 78 merc 200 ?
