Re: 1978 sea ray trim buttons ????

79, Good luck with your boat. I think you will find while holding the throttle/shifter ( right hand ) two buttons on thumb One (up) and one (down) these are for trimming the outdrive while under way. The other button on the other side of the throttle is for putting the outdrive in "trailering" position and you push both top buttons at the same time with thumb and finger to get the drive all the way up for launching and retrieving.Don't try to run the motor while in the trailering position.
When driving the boat start with the trim down and as you reach higher speeds you can trim the drive up a little at a time, each boat will have a sweet spot so just experiment. Don't let the motor over rev. To check your WOT speed vs. RPM get to full throttle and best attitude with the trim and note the numbers. Btw that SeaRay is a great boat :D

79, I would be interested in knowing how you boat performs.I assume if you have the 898 your motor is the GM 305ci or the Ford 351ci with the 2bbl carb. Is it the Cuddy Cabin? Got trim tabs?
I also got a steal on my boat, and feel free to E mail me with any other questions.

blk-n-blu , to tell ya the truth i have only put about 2 hours on the boat so far , but as far as i can tell it runs well , no trim tabs, Yet!!.. that was one thing i did notice , on saturday , it was just me and my dad , and it seemed to jump out of the water pretty well for a 3000lb. boat with a 305 in it , but on sunday it was a full boat with six people and she did stand up for awhile befor she plained out , after reading the smart tabs thread , i think im going to get a set and try them this weekend ,i was getting 40mph on the dream-o-meter and thats with me not knowing how to trim it out ...i think they call it an open cuddy . its not a true cuddy . there is a few storage doors and then the gas tank then another storage box for the anchor , so it looks like a cuddy but no bed or head ..it looks alot like yours but no cuddy window and its all white ,but it does have all the sweet chrome railing and the old horns on the front with alot of teak around the boat. we have a place in hessel mi.(on lake huron) , i dont know if you know were that is or not , but they have the annual wooden boat show there , so its a big spot for older boats and thats why i wanted the older looking style , and of course thats about all i could afford .. :) ....thanks for the help , im sure i will be emailing ya , and once i get these smart tabs on and a gps to get a true speed i will let you know ....take care ...

79ESKIBOT22

I have a 23 Mariah, tried out those self - adjustment system smart trim tabs and was not satisfied, salt water gets to them fast. Spend couple of more dollars and get the real thing.

Good luck
