Well I was looking for a 18' Starcraft Supersport and ended up with a 22' Holiday V5 with a 1978 Johnson 235 because the price was right. I plan on doing a full restore next winter but for now just going over everything so I can use it this summer. The floor and transom are solid, very little dock rash and no dents. This boat has been in storage for 10 years. I have alot of documentation dating back to 1980. It mainly needs cosmetic work seats carpert etc. I am looking to change out the windshield for a walk through windshield. Does anyone know where I can locate one? The reasoning is I have a ipilot which of coarse needs to mounted on the bow. I do not want to cut it up so I will have to climbout on the bow to lower the motor but it is a sacrafice I am willing to make.

Sounds like you need a rotten fiberglass donor boat. ;)
I, personally, would have no qualms in cutting out a closed bow boat to make it a fishing rig.
Better than going to the scrapyard, I say!
But I like hot rods more than originals anyway. :)

Can someone tell me how to post pics?

Open a free Photobucket account. Then upload your pics to it, once you have done that open the album run your cursor over the photo you want to upload to Iboats and left click on the IMG code that comes up in the box. Go to the post you are making in Iboats and put the cursor on the line you want the photo, then right click and paste the pic.

Re: !978 Starcraft Holiday V5

Now I need to figure out how I want to access the bow mount trolling motor. I could cut it out and add bracing or leave it alone and crawl out on the bow to deploy the motor. Its an Ipilot so I can control the motor from anywhere on the boat. Any suggestions?

Also do you think I should downgrade the motor or leave it as is? I know its rated for 240hp.

Other than fuel economy, that should be a fantastic motor for that boat. Run it! (and no one says you have to run WOT all the time either so your fuel usage can be what you make it).

This is just my personal bias but....

A electric trolling motor seems kinda outa place on a closed bow boat.

That's just me though:)

Hooked - here's an idea. A walk through with a sliding hatch to get to the T/M so you can drop or pull it back up. Hey, it's your boat now and while I wouldn't chop it it up too much here's a pic for the sliding hatch business. It keeps the closed bow but gives you the access you're looking for.

Very nice boat! I have the open bow version. Your transom was modified to handle that 20" shafted 235. The transom normally goes straight across. What does you splashwell look like on the inside? I imagine there was some custom work done to that as well.

Do you have a rear bench seat?

Check out my resto thread if you get a minute......

I like the little sticker on the side of the motor. "Is the plug in?"

Congrats on the nice boat!

Re: !978 Starcraft Holiday V5

There was a bench seat at some point because I have the back to it but no base, I looked at your restore last night for hours. You have done an awsome job if I can come close to what you have done I would be pleased. I will take pics of the splashwell on Thurs. but it looks alot like yours. I which I had a open bow but i couldn't pass up the deal. I plan on starting a complete restore this fall. I would like to keep it as close to original as possible. I will put in a walk through windshield so I can get to my trolling motor but I don't plan on cutting out the bow. If you have any suggestions or tricks that you discovered during your restore please let me know.

Dave I see what you talking about the transom, I never noticed it before. Do you think that could be problem?

Shouldn't be. You prolly get more water into the splashwell cause it's lower but as long as it drains it should be fine.

I like taking things apart until they can't come apart any more!!!

Yea the splashwell has a drain and I plan on 2 bilge pumps one automatic and one manual as a backup.
I got the windshield removed last night and thought I could have it cut at a glass shop but it never dawn on me that it was tempered glass which can't be cut. So I am going to have new safty glass cut .
