Well things are looking up for me. I have had to give up on a few boat projects because of financial reasons. But we now have established a good steady income, and glad to have a income again.

Both my wife and I have wanted a boat to take the family out in. Something that would be good for both the bay, and the larger lakes. Well this morning i just brought it home. 1970's (not sure the exact year, have to look at the title.) 21ft aluminum starcraft. It has already been stripped, so I just get to enjoy the fun part of putting it all back together! The best part of all, I paid $350 for it. It needs work, but for a all aluminum boat, you can't beat the price. I am going to have to find a trailer for it, but that won't be too bad.

I will start a restoration thread, when I get around to working on it. But for now I just wanted to show her off!

Let me know what you guys all think!

That's interesting, start a resto thread now and you will get a lot of feedback on it. Curious what the stock shape was? Can't quite see how it is meant to work with what looks like the windshield that far back. But I could see how it could work and being able to have a more enclosed area will be great for extending your season up in WA. Could be a very cool boat!

I am thinking i might move that whole windshield forward as far as possible to have as much room in the back for fishing/crabbing. But we will see. It was set up as a center console steering. All the parts are there, even the precut deck that just needs to be glassed and installed.

I need to get a trailer first, so i can bring it up to the garage. After i track one of those down, I will get down to business with it!

i know i may be beaten to death by certain islander fanatics for saying this, but if you dont need/want the cuddy part, why not remove it and have a nice open boat? it would be the same as having a 21' SS...

Very interesting opportunity to make it your own. That cuddy should move forward easily to give you the room aft. And at an exceptional price for the west coast even sans trailer. Keep the restore pics coming and there are a bunch of informed folks here if you get stuck.

One question i do have. I will be needing to find a outboard (or two:D) for it. How much power will i need to a 21ft aluminum like this?

at LEAST 115 hp. go with the most you can afford, or whatever its rated for whichever is more feasable.

Re: My first Starcraft

What a fun weekend it was! My friend had his bachelor party, went paintballing, spent some time on the lake fishing, and became a uncle once again. Pretty busy weekend.

I have been looking at a couple trailers, I am hoping to look at them this week. The sun is shining, and supposed to be for the next 10 days, so I am really getting anxious to working on the boat.

I hope everyone had a safe, and fun weekend!

Thanks Hemi. I am looking forward to working on it.

Do you have any pictures of yours? I am looking for some inspiration on how to put this thing back together. There are several different ways i am considering, and would not mind seeing how you have yours laid out.

Here is my main restoration thread. I didn't know what I had but now I know it is rare and special... "78 Starcraft, V5-22, What do I have?" I might have the OMC outdrive that everybody is so leary of but I'm a mechanic and I have a 250HP V8 in that light hull! I'm thinking it will skip acrost the lake like a flat rock!! :D

Re: My first Starcraft

Well the trailers that i was hoping to bring home fell through, so back to square one.

I have been looking for a nice used galvanized trailer. Does anyone have any insight on how heavy duty trailer i will need for the boat? Do i need a dual axle, or will a single axle be fine?

Thanks everyone for the help so far, and I promise to get moving on the boat here in the near future!

Re: My first Starcraft

I've seen them on both single and dual axle trailers so you're fine either way.

Re: My first Starcraft

The last couple days I have started picking up supplies to get started on the boat. Picked up 1 gallon of resin, 40ft of cloth, cheap paint brushes, and gearing up to set started on this thing! My question i have, the first thing i am going to do is Gluvit the inside. I have never used Gluvit before, so how much will i need to get it done? I have heard this stuff goes a LONG way.

Thanks guys.

I'd say a little more than 1 gallon. I got 2 gallons because I want to pickle it good in multiple coats so I don't have to go there again anytime soon...
