10 to 1 the boat has issues.....go look !.....he wont let you take core samples....but it has no motor.....you should be able to lift the back end of the hull with out too much trouble....how much does it weigh?.....if you can find the mfgrs specs you can weigh it

Re: 1978 Thermocraft boat question

Thank you for the response.

I'm not familiar with fiberglass at all so I'm over my head on that. I am very experienced with aluminum as I work in the aviation industry. Maybe I should stick to aluminum boats :)

It is 20 ft so I'm not sure if I would be able to lift or weigh the thing by myself.

Anyhow I called the person and it sounds like the boat will be sold very soon, possibly tonight (or so he says ).

If I get a chance to look tomorrow what are some common areas where problems can arise. I'm thinking the transom is pretty obvious but any other advice you could give a newbie.

As you say I'm sure there are some issues but it does seem pretty cheap for a decent sized boat. It might be a fun project but I don't want to get in too far over my head in terms of work or $$$.

You will be in deep w/o any power. Since you are skilled with aluminum........ I would shop for aluminum.

I am just not that enthused by the boat/trailer
