Hi folks...motor is working great, but had some questunes on the T&T...my manual dosnet go in depth on how to work the old 'A' style, with the knob for 'engage' on the front. I remember other posts saying to leave the vent screw open, that it was self bleeding. Now, what does the 'engage' knob do, what position is it supposed to be in, and when do I turn it?

thanks!

I have the same Trim/Tilt on my boat (pictured)

http://www.myfishingpictures.com/showphoto.php?photo=13002&sort=7&thecat=500&password=

That knob is to either release or engage the trim and tilt. Turn it one way and you can lift the motor by hand (Counter Clockwise I think) and the other way you can't.

As for installing a tach, it's very simple to do. Depending on the control box you have, go to a Merc dealer and get the tach wiring harness (3 wires) plug it into the control box and to the tach, set it for the correct pole position (Not sure what that is for your motor and it's too wet to go out and see what mine is set to) that's all you have to do.

Hope this answeres your question, if not others will chime in soon.

Craig

thanks, craig. mine says "to engage turn knob full right, to release turn knob full left. caution, never run boat without knob all the way to the left"...which dosnt make a lot of sense to me.

Ok, if you turn the knob to the left, you will be able to lift the motor manually, to the right it will be wherever the PT/T is set. I've only turned mine to the left once, I had a connection break in the plug on the side of the motor and couldn't start, or tilt the motor and on the trailer, the boat sits low enough that the skeg and maybe the prop hub would grind on the ground.

These motors do not have thermostats in them. None if the inline 6 motors did.

http://www.myfishingpictures.com/showphoto.php?photo=16454&sort=7&thecat=500&password=

Craig
