1978 115HP Johnson V-4. The flywheel is free thanks to all! Next issue, Need to remove Lower unit & Lower engine cover. Time for a New water pump & lower end inspection! I can't get to the shift rod nut under the carbs, Suggestions? I thought take off the lower engine cover would be easier and save some time rather than fight it, and while cover was off a good cleaning. Suggestions?

Those covers can be a pain to get off and the bolts are rusted, on some models you actually have to remove the powerhead to get that lower cowl off.
Easiest option is to take the bottom carb off, the gasket that sits behind the carb is only a couple of dollars

Nice to chat with you again. Hope all is well. I'm going to try and get to that bolt today. hoping that no other parts need removal. It is a Royal Pain! If the carbs have to come off, well they probably need cleaning too.
