I have a 1978 Apollo with twin Volvo Penta AQ200D's. The port motor has some starter wiring issues. It differs from the starboard motor in that it has a traditional GM starter with attached solenoid and a remote Ford solenoid. It also has had the stock points replaced with an igniter. I have attached a diagram of what it looks like right now. Can someone please help me with a diagram of how it should be wired.

Here is a link to the OEM service manual.

The reason for the Ford starter solenoid, is that it acts like a slave solenoid. Volvo uses a relay on the newer engines (not a solenoid) Merc, however does use a solenoid.
They are actually a good thing. They just make it easier on the ignition switch, wiring and neutral safety switch so they carry less current over long distances of OLD wiring.
Look at the second wiring diagram in the manual, it shows the relay.
