1979 140 Fuel Pump pouring out fuel

Did carbs recently and changed out all the lines inside. Now when I pump primer fuel pours out of the pump where the filter screen holder is connected to the pump. See the thing sticking out of the middle (where the filter would screw into). I do not remeber this sticking out like this. The filter holder does seem like it is meeting up tight to the pump but still fuel pours out. I wonder if in the process of putting on new fuel lines this thing popped out from inside the fuel pump. I guessing this is going to cost me a new pump. Any ideas?

look at the diagram for your pump at marineengine.com...seems like the gasket is missing in your pic

Ummm...does it have an oring as well as gasket between the cap and the pump? I see a o ring here: http://www.marineengine.com/newparts/part_details.php?pnum=OMC0433518&ptype=&Engine=&Model=

Got the gasket.

look at the diagram for your pump at marineengine.com...seems like the gasket is missing in your pic

hmmmm..must be looking at 2 different pumps...your pump face doesn't look like the one I was referring to < no.0438556 >....your o ring and cap belong to 0433518...soooooo not sure what's going on...although it appears that the price for a new pump has gone down and that's hard to imagine
