Well rebuilt my first outboard this weekend and runs great!! From what i've read, it usually takes 20 hrs to break in a new rebuild. My question is, i usually run synthetic oil in the mix, will it take longer to break in the motor like a automotive engine or will 20 hrs be enough to seat everything?

Re: 1979 150 Break In Proceedure

According to the OMC maunal no more than an idle for the firat ten minutes. Then no more than 3500 rpm for the next 50 minutes, then full throttle for only short intervals changing often for the next 9 hours. All at an oil mix of 25 to 1
