1979 50hp johnson electrical trouble

what is the name of the part that looks like an electrical control box that leads to the starter?<br />husband only called it an electrical control box but i cant find one on the net to fit the discription.

Welcome to iboats.<br />If it is the box that controls the starter itself, has two large cables,and one or two smaller cables, it is the "starter solenoid". If it fails, the engine will "click" or do nothing when you try to start it. If the engine cranks when you try to start it, the solenoid is OK.

i dont know for sure exactly but he did tell me that it was made by motorola. i thought maybe it was a sensor box or something but i may be wrong.
