I have a 1979 50hp Mercury 4cyl(dont have s/n number with me this second). I went to start it with the key and I didnt get anything at all, not even a click. I messed with the shifter and finally went back and jumped the cylonoid. It would roll over but would not start. Is there a kill switch in the control box? Any ideas? Are those control boxes easy to open, or will I have springs come flying at me if I do?

Thanks
Nick

I'm not sure if it's in the box or on the engine, but it sounds like you neutral safety switch. Have a look on the motor for a switch the the shift links or throttle would activate. You can jump it to test, but I wouldn't leave it that way. For the box I'd get a manual (check your library).
