1979 55Hp electrical problems...

When I turn the key nothing happens, the choke does not turn either. So I jumped the starting solinoid to the ingintion wire and the motor turned over. I also pull started the motor and it ran mint with no issue????

What in the ignition could go wrong? I opened it up and could not find any loose wires? Could it be the cut off switch?

How does it get power to the key? Does it come from the battery thru the switch and back to the starting soliniod?

I also could not find a fuse is there one and where is it located?

I did find the small fuse and it was popped, I replaced it turned the keys and the same it popped again. I am assuming I have a short somewhere? Where should I look first?
