So, the motor sat for a long time. It was actually given to my dad, by a friend who had stored it for about 12yrs. It ran when put into the garage, so the motor looks really clean and is in good shape. When he got it home, he cleaned the plugs, and gave the carbs a good scrubbing. Darn thing started right up. The motor ran like a champ for the first season(2010); after new spark plugs were installed. The boat wintered in my garage. I am rather new to this boat ownership, so my over-winter storing process probably needs some work, as I really didn't do anything but park it.

Next season, choked the motor, started right up...whooo-hooo!!! Backed her out and slowly got up to full throttle. Ran great for about 3-5 minutes, then just started to bog down. If you let the boat sit for a bit, and take off, you get full song for a bit, then it drops to two cylinders. This is my fishing boat, so once we got to our destination, it would troll all day no problem. If you didn't goose it, ran about half throttle, it ran great. Once you started giving it more it would just crap out. My dad and I deduced it was running on two cylinders by the change in pitch of the motor...strangest thing. We are focusing on fuel because if I drove and he was in the back squeezing the ball it would really try to go.

At the lake we changed the fuel, cleaned the plugs, unplugged the ignition and cranked; fuel pumps out the top no problem. When I got home, I completely rebuilt the fuel pump and replaced the filter. Still no help.

I am really virgin when it comes to these motors, any help would be much appreciated.

My next step is to replace all the lines and rebuild the carbs, but I want to be able to rule out some unknown variable as my experience is minimal.

Thanks,

Bryan

Hi Bryan,

As I was reading your posting, my initial thought was that all the fuel lines are probably still original. Those lines were not meant to take gas with ethanol. The gas from last year probably done its work during the winter.
Looks like you are on the right path by replacing the fuel lines and cleaning the carbs!

Good luck, Peter

Excellent, I am hoping for something as simple, I ordered the rebuild kits today. I will let you know how it goes in a few days. Thanks again!

Built in tank or portable?
The tank vent might be clogged??
Like Pete said change the hoses and the squeezie.
Re-build the fuel pump too.J
