1979 Evinrude 140 ignition coil?

I had to replace an ignition coil on my 1979 Evinrude 140hp outboard but could only locate the newer style updated coil (p/n 0584561). I have the coil kit assembled and mounted as per the instructions. My problem is that i need to attach the orange lead pin. The instructions call for special tool, p/n: 322697 to do the job. Can anyone offer any advice on installing this lead pin into the plug-in without the use of the special tool? The older ignition coil simply plugged in. Within this receptacle, I need to affix the orange lead of the newer style lead pin. Hope that clears this message up. Thanks in advance for any and all help.
