Re: 1979 evinrude 85 hp ob v4 control cables( how to?)
I just did the same thing myself. Having taken my 81' 90hp V-4 off of an older boat and put it on a new aluminum skiff I had built. I wanted to change the control box only but in turn had to change the cables also due to the missmatch on the connections. In the long run i found it is worth the few extra dollars for the cables. I hope this helps and happy boating.

I have the same motor you do mercrude and I believe you have to change the cables too. Since you got a new box the new cables would just make it better. Workinoffsho is right because it's something you can forget about for a while and just enjoy your outing. If they sell adapters I have never seen them.

Dutch
