I am trying to price my 1979 evinrude 85 hp. It has been used for only 15 of the past 26 years and has been stored inside only. A ball-park figure is all I need. Or any suggestions on where to look for prices would be great.

There's so many variables that I don't think anybody can give you an accurate #. If you were to get 1000bucks for a 26year old boat motor you would be doing really well. I've seen it happen, but condition, timing, and location have a lot to do with it. Chief ;)

I'd agree with Chief, but add that if you've got it attached to a boat where you can actually show somebody how well it runs on the water and all, you're bound to get more for it. It also helps to take it somewhere for a compression test, etc, and get it documented for a purchaser. That's the only way to get somebody to take that kind of risk on a motor that old, IMO. If you do that, the reputation of those motors should bring you a nice price. I've got a '78 Johson myself and it's as good as any of the other motors around it 20 years its junior.

As to your last question, the NADA guides will list ballpark figures, but they have little to do with what people will actually do with a motor that old.
