Just wanted to open this new forum site to indicate that my boat is a 1979 Glastron SSV-176 with a '77 Johnson 140 hp outboard on the back. Love my boat!

John, this should look familiar to you:

This is "Elbow Grease". She's a '76 V-195 Sea-Rider, completely original down to the carpet, except for teh engine rebuild. power is supplied by a mildly built Ford 302 spinning a Mercruiser #1 drive.

You can't see it well in the pic, but if you look closely, you will notice a red trailer sticking out from behind the 195. That trailer hold my '76 Glastron T-166 powered by a 85hp Johnson. That one is original hull only. She was completely rotted and had to be rebuilt from the hull up with all new wood, including stringers. I converted it for fishing use.

Jason and John, I've got the outboard brother V-192 to your boats. Jason your boat looks great. I get happy feelings just looking at it. I rebuilt my Johnson 200 last year and have had a blast.

Re: 1979 Glastron

A 192 is what I would really like to have had, but the 195 is great. I prefer outboards, but the wife wanted a sterndrive. Now she likes OB's better too.....

She has quite a few blimishes, but hey, she's 30 years old. It actually spent about 15-20 years of that in dry storage.

Here's another pic:
I have a 96 Glastron GS160 with a 1979 Merc 140 outboard. Only thing I didn't like about the boat is there was very little if any control/steering in reverse. Once the boat started to turn in a direction, there was no was to stop it without going forward. That changed when I put on "Smart Tabs". not only does the boat not plow, but I now have steering in reverse.

Craig

Re: 1979 Glastron

I have a 1977 Glastron with a 140 Johnson and problems starting this boat for a while. I found out that it was a key switch and battery cables that was causing all the problems and will pick it up from the shop this week. Anyone had this problem before. I will try the trim tabs because I have the same problem with reverse and water coming over the stern. Anyone?
