1979 inline 6 lower unit water

hi its me again seem to be getting a little water in lower unit just enough to cloud it when i took the prop off i noticed that there was no thrust washer on the inside . Is there suppose to be one ? thanks anthony savino

All mercurys with slip hubs of any kind require a thrust hub

i wonder if not running it with thrust washer would let water in lower unit

No, you have a leak some where, if it don't seem to be leaking at the prop shaft, it must be at the water pump or shift shaft seals

Correct. Taking the lower off yourself and walking it into your FLMD to get re-sealed saves a ton of cash.<br /><br />-W

took lower unit off to do a leak test impella was melted i think the drive shaft bearings need to be replaced are they costly ?do i have to take the whole lower unit apart with special mercury tools ? or can they be changed from up top i could not figure it out and did not want poke around to much
