1979 johnson 35 hp water problem HELP!!!! Please

Hello
I have a 1979 johnson 35 hp with a water problem and have tried for 6 months to fix if any body has any ideals Please let me know. my problem is it pumps water just fine when the motor is turning over but when it finaly starts it is just like somebody turned the water off i have replaced the water pump , thermostat, pulled water jacket cleaned all the water lines i have hooked up my water hose to the water line with the lower unit off and let the water run through thinking i might have missed something but the water runs straight through with no prob. put it all back togather and same prob can someone Please HELP!!!!

Sounds like you're missing the key between the impeller and the drive shaft.

I agree with the wombat. Also check for a slipping hub in the impeller.

Just curious, if it is missing the pin how or even why would/could it pump water while turning over and not while running? Just tryimg to further my know how on these things.

There's enough friction between the drive shaft and the impeller that it may turn it at low rpms. Running on the muffs helps that too, the impeller turning is the path of least resistance until the friction between the impeller and the cup overcomes the water pressure.
