1979 merc 140 hp timing

I have a manual and cannot figure out how to set the timing, I replaced the trigger in the distributor. I lined the marks up on the pulley with the flywheel set to O at TDC, it starts but doesnt seem to run strong, I think the timing is off, but cant make out what the manual is saying on how to set it. I know there are most likely posts on this but searched and cant really narrow it down. Any help would be greatful.

OK, You need to check idle pickup timing and max spark advance. Go to the FAQ and find the timing and synch of inline motors and follow it.

Your dissy has a brass collar held on by two bolts. It is in the middle of the dissy. Loosen these bolts and slide the collar to adjust idle pickup timing to get 4-6* BTDC. Max timing is set by a phillips screw, labled as max spark advance. Set max advance to 21* BTDC

I keep searching the FAQ`s and still not finding anything on timing and synch for this motor, can someone link me to the right info?
