I lucked up and got a great deal on a boat & motor that sat out in the open for an unknown length of time. I was told that it was running within the last two years. The weather did a number on a good bit of the wiring. All wires to the stator broke after the slightest touch, as did a couple of wires to the switchbox. An older post on iBoats stated that I might be able to save the stator by cutting wires back, cleaning them, then soldering, etc. The wires on this broke almost @ the point where they enter the stator. On the upside, I am able to separate the four wires just inside the hole.
It looks as though the area, above the wires, is "plugged" as a final process in manufacturing.
Can I save it? Can I remove (cut/dig out) the "plug", rewire, and put back together? Or would my local battery/starter shop be able to rebuild the stator? Or...
Will it be a waste of time?
