Hello again,
just tebuilt my carbs on my 1979 Merc 454s. Quadrajet carbs, full tear down including pick up tubes and all. New choke stoves, in-line filter, and overnight chem dip.
The one engine fires fires immediately and runs great. The other will crank and fire but immediately stall out. If I increase the throttle just a little, if runs just fine. At idle, once the engine has ran a minute, it is hovering around 5-600, it’s hard to get an accurate reading due to stalling. The good engine sits at 800, the boat is out of water. When rebuilding, I set the idle screws to 3-1/4 turns and then adjusted to 3-1/2 turns. I will say, the idle screws looked different then the other car; they do not have a flathead slot, they are a very small hex head. I pulled the carb off as I have to to adjust the screws. While out I puked the horn and checked the float, it is set to 1/4 per the spec sheet. Used a new gasket and put the horn back on.
Im stuck on the idle screws due to the difference in the two RPMs. What are your thoughts? P.S. the good carb idle screw is set to 3-1/4.
