hello, new member here.

I recently got a 79 70hp outboard, runs fine compression is good, the carbs have been cleaned and a new impellor has been put in. I went to use it today and felt pretty confident.

After going out and getting on plane for the first time something made the engine lose power. it idled home and started again when i tried it. then it wouldnt start. now i open the cap and inspect the fuel screen, it looks clean so i put the cover back on (its held on by one screw in the middle) so I start it again and see that gas is literally peeing out of this part of my engine:rolleyes: ok so WHERE CAN I GET THIS PART, OR HOW CAN I PATCH THIS RUBBER TO HOLD PRESSURE ? and is there anything else i can look for that could of caused this problem in case i cracked this cover when i took it off.

It might just be the O-ring. They can be a little tricky to get back into place when reused and all stretched-out.

You can look up parts for your motor here and then order from iBoats or any number of parts places on the internet, or if you have a local Merc dealer:
