1979 Merc 9.8 fuel leaking

My engine runs great. Primes fine with no fuel leaking. Then when I tilt the engine up, the remaining fuel in the bowl of the carb leaks out. Is this normal for these engines?

Yes, when you tilt a engine up it is know different than tipping a glass of water on it's side the liquid runs out.
