1979 OMC 800 Upper Gear Case Oil Level

1979 OMC 800 Stern Drive Upper Gear Case??????

Is the groove, on the dip stick, the Minimum or Maximum Oil Level for the Upper Gear Case? There are some illegible scribing on the dip stick, but have no clue what they say.

I have downloaded the OMC manual from the "adults only" section (very nice, by the way) It just shows the dip stick, but no reading advice.

The line is neither the high or low mark. It is the full mark.
Always take your reading with the dipstick fully screwed in. UNLESS you have done a full oil replacement. Then read the stick just set in place .
