Penn Yan's are good boats, they look smart too. They have really good sea keeping abilities. I think that may be a tunnel drive, I could be wrong though. The tunnel drive was nice; it directed the force of the thrust better and as a result those boats handled really well. I think it also reduced propwalk common to inboards. I would go for it if it was selling for the right price.

I had a 1976 23footer hardtop ,single mercruiser inboard tunnel drive. By far, the best boat I have ever had the pleasure of owning!
Stout, thick,well-laid glasswerk.
Extremely Stable and roomy.
Very manueverable (once you got used to the total loss of helm at neutral. But then again, it didn't matter, because it tracked true.

Slow, and fuel-hungry, but with derivative benifit of shallow draft. Of all it's features, I liked thsat the best. This monster hardtop cuddy could navigate in 7" of water, with my family of three aboard.

I had repeated problems at underway with the GASSO auxillary waterpump impeller failing at will. But it may be because I enjoyed the skinny water so. I would leave the channel, and short-cut across oyster beds. It was fun because I'd get the obligatory runabout folowing me, and they would allways run-aground :) lol

Fishing with 4 of your friends is never cramped on the spacious aft deck.

Very popular up north, I used to live in CT and would see them everywhere, the only problem I heard of was the tunnel drive causes is not as efficent as straight inboard, but they are built like a rock
