1979 Suzuki DT85 hard starting until I use starting fluid.

I have a 1979 DT85 that runs great it is just hard to start when it is cold. it has 120 psi compression on all 3 cylinders. the carbs were just cleaned. I put in new plugs. I have to use starting fluid to get it started the first time of the day. it will start as long as it doesn't sit to long during the day. Any suggestions on what to do to fix the problem.

my guess is choke is not working properly

I have checked the choke it is closing but not 100 % it is closing about 90% there is a small gap between the butterfly and the carb housing when it is closed. maybe I will try and adjust it and see if that helps.

Fix the choke. It needs to close fully when cold. Keep using starting fluid and you won't need to worry about the choke. You will be looking for a new engine. Starting fluid has no lubricant in it unless the can specifically states that it does.
