We are looking at a 79 Thunderbird Formula 18' Bow Rider 305ci 228 hp mercruiser. We are told the starter is out. He went to start it up and would not start. No specifics on it yet, have appointment to look at it. Any thoughts on the boat, motor or starter issue? Are these motors or known for any specific issues? Really missing the river but don't want to buy a hunk of junk. Any input would be appreciated!

A 305 Mercruiser is certainly a proven powerplant. However, I wouldn't buy it if I couldn't hear it running.

I have one. I must say myself now! I love the boat BUT! Just remember that as for the motor you well love the power that it has plus on a 18 ft deep hull. If you spend the money on her you will love it too. Remember! All boats are big boy toys.
