I have 2 of 4 cylinders working. one on each side of the engine. i figured the problem cannot be power pack because each side has one cyl going? When i pull the plug boot off the two cyls the engine make no diference. on one cly i still seem to be getting power because i hear the cliking from the boot the other seems dead. I replaced one coil and that worked for one trip out then the next day the same problem occured. i replaced the stator last yr and am wondering if a bad stator would make one cyl on each side go ka put. if it make a difference one is on the top on the one side and the other one is on the bottom on the other side.

Check your coils with an ohem meter between primary and secondary wires should read 1200 to 1400 if good between the ground and each of these wires should be 0 [zero] elimiate the coils first, make sure they are fine You can do this test just under the " Pack" cover where all the wires connect check there for maybe just a loose connection

Make sure the ground is clean on the packs.

Re: 1979 v4 only 2 cyl firing

i am checking compression tomorrow. Am i correct in assumig since at least one clynder on each side is ok that i can eliminate the power packs as source of the problem. Also since one cylinder which does not seem to be firing still seems to be receiving a charge from the power pack does that eliminate the stator. i guess i will have to check all the wires and go from there the only ohter thing which may not have anything to do with this problem is i recently lost the electronic choke. maybe there is a link there sonewhere in the wiring.

see 1988 48hp evinrude thread for your firing problem. Check the FAQ's for choke problem.
