I have a 1980 Johnson Javelin 100hp. The trim worked fine last year, but this year, it went up the first time and that was it. It goes up or down or up with help (as someone is pushing the corresponding button I lift or push down on motor), but just makes noise otherwise. It soulds liek it is working, starts with a high pitch hum and then sounds like it is loaded, but just wont move. I have lifted it all the way up and filled the reservoir (which took about 1/3 of a tube of trim fluid) and nothing changed. It almost seems like it is making a creeking noise at times when I assist it to move. Could it be that the hydraulic ram is bad or pump or...???

I think you should try up and down after filling it up a few times to try to purge all the air. Could the tilt tube/steering nuts been too tight/corroded?

I have gone up and down about 10 times. It got a little easier to assist manually, but it still won't go by itself. I do see some fluid coming from the top of the main ram.

Anyone have an online manual for this motor possibly?

Sounds like you need to install an oring/seal kit. Are you sure you are supposed to have it up when you fill with fluid?
