I just read a thread about burning down a similar engine due to an impeller failure. My duck boat has been dry docked for 3-4 years now. Can someone guide me on an impeller replacement? Manual etc.... Anything else beside the lower unit oil, new gas, and carb cleaning/rebuilding that I should be doing before start up? Fogged it and I'm pretty sure it has new lower unit oil and plugs, but I'll change just in case.

Changing the impeller at least every 2 years is a good idea when it comes to proper maintenance. You must unbolt the lower unit and install at least a new impeller. You will see the waterpump sitting on top of the LU with the drive shaft going through it. t is not a hard task, and you can get help here if you get in trouble. Glad you already changed the lower gear lube. Thats a plus. as far as rebuilding carbs or fuelpump that has to wait until you really need to do this. It is optional. check all fuel lines and change fuel filters. Replace any worn lines. Check the wiring for lose connections and frayed wires or corosion of the wires themselves.Greese all fittings. Start your engine to make sure it runs fine before setting out.

Thx. I'll get after it. I know this is the wrong thread, but is a '70 something 18HP similarly simple?
