Hi all,

First post here. I've got a 1980 Evinrude 4.5 on my sailboat. I rarely use the thing, except to get in ans out of the slip.

I had trouble last season getting it to start. I took it to a guy who rebuilt the carb over the winter. I had already installed new plugs. The start problem last year had to do with the float sticking open (gas would pour out the carb).

I launched the boat yesterday, and after about twenty pulls, it fired up.

I was able to motor over to my slip (about a 15 minute ride), but as I got there, and was backing the throttle down to slow idle, it wanted to, and finally did, kill. I was unable to get it restarted, but was so close to the slip, and the conditions were so calm, that I just drifted in.

The one thing he did that is new is replaced the knob to control the rich/lean setting. When I had the motor before, that was missing, hence rarely adjusted.

So, is my problem just due to the need to adjust the rich/lean screw, or is there something more? Also, how do I go about adjusting the rich/lean setting? When will I know it's right?

Thanks,

Boris

here you go it think this will help you. also run the engine more. and mix seafoam in with the gas oil mix. will help keep the carbs from gumming up.

I am sure Daddy intended to post a link for you :p to the Engine FAQs where there is an article by Joe Reeves on how to set the mix on small OMC engines.

Good luck. ;)
