1980 4.5hp Evinrude outboard

I recently bought this outboad motor off of ebay and when it arived, the pull rope recoil starter was not working... first when you pulled the rope, the gear did not engage the flywheel and also the rope did not recoil. I look around on Iboats for a new recoil starter, but all they have listed is a recoil spring. That's just the spring. The springs fatigue and break over time. I've been told these work similar to a lawn mower (simple). A manual and a few relatively inexpensive parts may put it back in working order.<br />www.theoutboardwizard.com for a manual<br />Try ebay, local yards for used parts.<br />The URL above can help you with BRP parts as well.<br />Good luck
