Took a look at a 1980 50 hp, 4 cylinder, 2-stroke, serial 5634000. Type V ignition.
Verified bottom 2 cylinders are dead.
Under the flywheel there look to be 2 triggers in one molded housing ring about 90 degrees from on another. Sits inside, beneath the stator coils. There are four wires; wht/blk paired with brn, and wht paired with vio.
If I switch the trigger wire pairs on the switch box, the top 2 cylinders become the dead ones and the bottom 2 will fire. Opposite symptom.
Does this mean one of the triggers is dead? Bad trigger assembly?
Thank you,
J

Not that anyone's interested, but, ...
Yes. Yes, it does mean a bad trigger.
Verified with spec resistance measurements.
wht/blk to brn OR wht to vio should measure 700 - 1k ohms.
I've got an open circuit in one of my pairs.
