Goes just fine up to about 7or8 MPH, But if I try to go faster engine winds up and boat slows. Any Suggestions? :(

Looks like you pretty much nailed it on the head. The hub in the prop is spun. Tske the prop to a prop shop and have a new bushing pressed in.

Thank You, I was hoping it was that simple. I was minutes away from tearing the lower unit down!

Don,

be wise. Don't tear anything until you've checked with this forum.

A search here takes a few minutes and will, if nothing else, keep you from doing something you might later regret.

Re: 1980 70HP Evinrude Prop Slips

I have my prop out right now for a spun hub. Had the problem for the last 2 years and nobody knew what was going on.. too bad i wasn't a member here because i am sure this forum would have helped me solve the problem. (i joined yesterday) I thought it was the prop ventilating,, pulling air into it and over revving, but, put my spare prop on and no more problems. i should have my prop back friday, becuase they had to redo their hub job since the first one was botched, and i couldn't even get the prop on becuase the hub wasn't centered in the prop.
