It starts quick idels smooth, but when I try to acellerate it kills the engine. I give it about half throttle and just wait it will eventually pick up and go. When it takes off it will go fast and not miss a lick. I have taken the carbs off and cleaned, they really look clean. Some times I have to run several hundred yards before it picks up and go. Could this problem be timing? Any suggestions?? thanks guys,,,, Sam

A sticky stator or a linkage failure between fuel supply and ignition timing would do that sort of bad stuff, Sam. Get a factory service manual (www.outboardbooks.com) and do a careful link 'n' synch procedure.

I think JB meant a sticky timer base. Take the hood off, rotate the prop so it just goes in gear and then jam the throttle to wot position and see if the timer base keeps up with the rest of the carb linkage.
