I recently bought a 14 aluminum boat with a 9.9 sea king motor. I got the boat home and put the motor in a barrel of water. The motor started in two pulls. The motor has not been ran in three months. There was a lot of smoke. It reminded me of my lawnboy when I start it up. Once I put it in gear the smoke seemed to quit down some. Could this smoke be caused by improper mix of oil to gas? Could it just be that the motor had been sitting without starting or do these motors just smoke alot.

It may be a combination of things.Motors always appear to smoke more in a barrel. and can smoke more after storage especially if treated for storage.
Fuel mix is 50:1 use TCW3 oil.Should be no problem. You may want to add a little outboard gas treatment.

Thanks for the reply, I emptied the fuel in to another fuel can and will be starting with a fresh fuel and mix ratio. I am also looking for a manual for future use.
