We bought this boat in the spring with a seized port engine. I am an auto technician by profession so the engine rebuild seemed easy. Once I had the boat home, I found out the transom was rotted. Now this is where I had to ask scrap it or rebuild it. We paid 2500 for the boat and trailer, not too bad so I thought. I have decided to rebuild the boat and make the most out of it. I want to build it right and plan to keep it for many years. I will have many questions, some I am sure have been asked before. I plan on posting many pictures of the project along the way. I plan on this taking 3 years to complete from this spring, time and MONEY allowing.

Cool project man. How are those 470s? Are you going to be doing a repower or keeping the current mills? The boat in my sig is an 85 Century Mirada I cant wait to put it on the water.

I am going to keep them after a lot of thought. I have a local machine shop with experience with these engines. I wish I could have mine on the water this year but I have my little boat untill then. Have you had yours long?

Re: 1980 Century Cortez Restoration

Does anyone have any opinion of using Coosa for the transom? What is the right type of glass and resin for this repair. I am going to have to rebuild the stringers also, I don't know how far forward they are rotted yet, still working my way forward. I am planning on repairing the starboard side stringer and floor first. The coosa seems like a good choice, as it will never rot. I do not want to have to do this again. I apologize if I ask the same questions others have asked. Thanks for any help,Mike.

Ok, i am going to take some pics of the outside this weekend after I get the snow off. Hoping someone can lead me in the right direction for fixing the cracks in the gel coat. Has anyone used Coosa for a transom , pros , cons?
