I'll ask this question on a new thread, hoping that somebody could confirm this quickly.

The situation is that I got my outboard running again, it has a new water pump, that has been confirmed to operate before, and a new thermostat. When I got to run at high idle and rough for short periods first, I am certain that the indicator stream was present and steady, running on a test tank and water level was high enough so water supply was not the problem.

After some more tries and once it started to run for longer periods, indicator stream was lost but some water spat out of "nostrils" all the time. The first question is, shouldn't the indicator stream be present all the time regardless of the thermostat state? Or is this the expected operation that the indicator stream is not present while thermostat is closed?

The second question, was this the correct way to install the thermostat:
1. thermostat, longer end into the cylinder head
2. seal
3. retainer
4. spring

I am now afraid that the water pump has broken or that I somehow botchered its installation after all. :/

Thanks, as I assumed. And also the thermostat should be installed correctly then. I'll try to clean the indicator again and double check the water flow .. (somehow?) After that after the possible or likely leaks. Now I already know that I will need new gaskets in any case if I open it. :)
