I have been a forum member and received alot of info that helped me revive my 1980 60 hp Evinrude (I think it is Model No. 60ELCRS)that hhas been in storage for 17 years. However, I can't seem to get figure out how to get the top carb off the engine for cleaning. I have a Clymner's manual but it doesn't give you specific info about removing the carbs. I got the bottom one off and cleaned, but it looks like I may have to remove the electric choke solenoid spring that connects to the choke arm on the top carb. I am attaching a picture to shows the choke arm assembly. The solenoid spring looks delicate so I don't want to damage it. Is there a way to remove the carb linkage without removing this spring? Thanks for any replies.

yep, you are correct, remove the spring carefully. also it is attached to the solenoid piston, so that will come out also with spring.

Carefully remove the small white retaining ring on the choke shaft arm (you can see it in the pic) with a small pick or similar, the spring can then be removed and left without disturbing the solenoid end.
