Hello,

How can I test the trim motor itself on a 1980 Evinrude 70 hp. I am restoring the boat and all the wiring has been removed. It is a 2 wire trim motor. Can I ground to the engine block and try one wire at a time? I just need to see if the motor/trim works at all. It did not work when I bought the boat to restore with the original wiring. At this time all I have is the 2 wires coming from the trim motor.

Thank you

12V to green is down, 12V to blue is up.

Battery jumper wires are to connect to the PTT electric motor leads... both of them!

Negative to GREEN, positive to BLUE makes the electric motor run in one direction. Reversing the wires cause the electric motor to run in the opposite direction.

Let us know what you find.

Thanks Guys,

I have been trying that and getting a short. I searched a little more and found it. I will replace the wire with tinned wire, solder and use adhesive lined heat shrink and wrap it back up.

Thanks again
