1980 J5rlcs 4.5hp Dies underload

I have a 4.5hp I use as a kicker for my 18ft starcraft. The problem is when running in a tank it is fine but when trolling it will go for maybe 3-5 minutes then die. This motor is a gravity fed fuel tank, to me it seems like it is not getting fuel?

So far I have changed the fuel filter but no change. Should I look at the carb or fuel tank? Also is it possible to put a fuel pump on this and use an external tank?

try to choke when motor is going to die, if helps means fuel problem delivery.clean the carb, check fuel lines and ties on this lines.

yes its posible to run motor with fuel pump.you need square OMC fuel pump, fuel lines conectors(man and female)and fuel lines

Pull the fuel line off of the carb and open up the tank shut off valve. If you're getting good flow, do the carb.
